Juvenile Detention OfficerFull Time
Positions of this class are responsible for the supervision and care of juveniles confined in the County Juvenile Detention Center. Incumbents report to a Juvenile Detention Leadworker.

Education and Experience:
A strong desire to work with high risk/high needs youth. All other combinations of education and lived life experience will be considered including ;Able to provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination or apply for and receive a medical or religious exemption.
College degree, High School Diploma or GED; Direct or indirect lived experience with trauma, mental health illness, substance abuse, or incarceration.

Our ideal Candidate: Has a strong desire to coach youth who have experienced Trauma, struggle with mental health/substance abuse issues, and/or come from marginalized populations. Our goal is to help youth build resiliency so they too can become global citizens.
Work Life Balance:
Must be available and willing to work 40-hour, rotation shift coverage for a 24-hour per day, 7-
day per week operation. New detention officers should except sudden and frequent changes to their work schedules. This may include forced overtime or being moved to another shift.
Knowledge of: Principles of human behavior and juvenile psychology; pertinent laws, codes and regulations; computer skills in word processing, spread sheets and case tracking software; basic self-defense.
· Ability to effectively work with persons from all levels in the organization and diverse backgrounds including age, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, socioeconomic status, physical characteristics, neuro diverse, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
· Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
· Ability to follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively orally and in writing; learn assigned tasks; adhere to prescribed routines.
