Stevens County Public Works is seeking a motivated and collaborative Assistant County Engineer to support the delivery of transportation and public works infrastructure projects across the county. This position plays a key leadership role within the Engineering Services Division and works directly under the direction of the County Engineer to help manage daily engineering operations, project development, and construction delivery.
The Assistant County Engineer assists with planning, design, and construction of public works projects including roads, bridges, and related infrastructure. This position provides engineering expertise, supports project scheduling and budgeting, coordinates with internal divisions and external agencies, and serves as a technical resource and mentor to engineering staff. The role also helps guide project development to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while delivering high-quality public infrastructure for Stevens County residents.

Key Responsibilities
Assist with management and delivery of transportation and public works projects from planning through construction.
Support preparation and review of construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and engineering reports.
Coordinate with consultants, contractors, agencies, utilities, and internal divisions.
Review engineering work products for technical accuracy and feasibility.
Assist in managing project scope, schedule, budget, and risk.
Provide mentorship and guidance to engineering and technical staff.
Support contract administration, bidding processes, and project oversight.
Represent Stevens County on assigned boards, committees, and interagency work groups.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferred.
Five (5) years of progressively responsible engineering experience in transportation design, construction, or public works.
Municipal or public sector experience is desirable.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred; Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Washington State is desirable but not required.
Valid Washington State driver’s license.
