Open Position: Civil Deputy / Evidence Custodian

Duties: The Civil Deputy/Evidence Custodian is a non-sworn, classified position subject to the direct supervision of the Administrative Assistant. The Civil Deputy/Evidence Custodian position is a Civil Deputy and an Evidence Custodian position merged into one position. The Civil Deputy / Evidence Custodian has the primary responsibility of the safety, security and reliability of the evidence and property held, and/or collected by members of the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office.

At a minimum, the Civil Deputy / Evidence Custodian is responsible for the following in accordance with the Revised Code of Washington (RCW), other statutory requirements and the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office Policy and Procedures:
1. Shall receive and take into custody property and evidence presented by members of this office who are authorized to place property and evidence into the agencies property and evidence system;

2. Shall process and document all property and evidence received in a manner that will ensure its safety, security and integrity from the time it is received until final disposition;

The Evidence Custodian shall routinely type reports concerning work activities and other required documents using a computer; will routinely access and employ the Sheriff’s Office computerized data bases for information needed to perform the duties of this position.

Performs other duties as may be required.

NUMBER OF VACANCIES: One (1) Full-Time Positions.

HIRING RANGE: Step 1 $5,074.18 to Step 3 $5.383.20/month DOE

FULL SALARY RANGE (monthly):

Step 1 $5,074.18       Step 2 $5226.41        Step 3 $5226.41        Step 4 $5226.41

The benefits package includes vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, life insurance, retirement plan, and medical benefits. Position is represented by Teamsters, Local 690.

 

GENERAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED of all applicants prior to entering the classified service are:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen at the time of appointment.
  • Must speak the English language clearly, fluently, and at a normal conversational rate.
  • Must read, write legibly, and spell correctly in the English language.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment. and possess a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must pass a polygraph examination to determine if the applicant is prone to violating the laws of Washington State or the United States.
  • Must submit to a psychological evaluation as well as cooperate in a background investigation to determine the applicant’s suitability for employment in the position being sought.

EXAMINATION SCHEDULE: You must test within two weeks of submitting your application.

Typing Test: 35 WPM with a 90% accuracy (3-minute test; 2 attempts).

Written Exam: Allow 2 hours for the written test.

Monday, November 3, 2025 at 2:00pm
Friday, November 7, 2025 at 9:00am

Test location:  Old County Courthouse, Human Resources Office, 625 W. 4th St. Newport, WA 99156.

Upon passing the Civil Service Exams your application will be forwarded to the Sheriff’s Office where you will be subject to further testing, such as polygraph, etc.

Non-refundable $20.00 testing fee (cash, check, or debit card) payable to Pend Oreille County Civil Service. To be paid and receipted at the POC Treasurer’s Office.
