Traffic Engineering Manager – Roads Division – Ready to Shape the Future of Transportation in Kitsap County?
We’re looking for a dynamic Traffic Manager to lead our Roads Division’s traffic planning, engineering, and operations. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact, designing safer roads, improving traffic flow, and guiding long-term transportation strategies for our growing community.
As the County’s traffic expert, you’ll manage a talented team, collaborate with local and regional partners, and serve as a trusted advisor to the Board of County Commissioners. As the Traffic Manager for the Roads Division, you will:
- Lead and Manage the Traffic Section, setting goals, priorities, and coordinating activities.
- Supervise and Develop Staff, providing leadership, training, and performance management to build a high-performing team.
- Shape Policy and Standards, ensuring compliance with AASHTO, MUTCD, and other regulations while driving improvements in traffic operations and safety programs.
- Oversee Traffic Systems, including signal maintenance, timing, and operational efficiency, as well as regulatory controls like speed limits and parking regulations.
- Plan for the Future, developing short- and long-range transportation plans, reviewing legislation, and incorporating new technologies and best practices.
- Serve as a Key Liaison, working with the Board of County Commissioners, regional planning organizations, developers, and the public to resolve complex issues and find equitable solutions.
What you will bring:
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Eight years of professional experience in transportation and traffic engineering
- Three years of supervisory experience
(Relevant experience may substitute for education requirements) - License: Licensed as a WA State Professional Engineer (PE), or in process of securing WA State comity.
- Expert Knowledge of traffic principles, planning, and operations, with the ability to apply advanced technical and administrative skills.
- Strong Leadership & Communication Skills to manage staff, negotiate solutions, and engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving Ability to tackle complex, high-impact challenges with creativity and sound judgment.
