Job Summary:
Provides cashiering, customer service, clerical, and general office support in the Treasurer’s Office. The role requires computer proficiency (including Microsoft Office), knowledge of standard office procedures, and understanding of cash handling and basic accounting. Work is performed under direct supervision, with an emphasis on effective cooperation with the public and other employees.
Essential Functions
- Provide courteous, professional customer service to the public by phone, mail, and in person
- Process mail, correspondence, and provide secretarial and clerical support to staff
- Perform comprehensive cash-handling duties, including receipting, balancing, bank transfers, deposits, and maintaining financial records
- Prepare, type, and compose correspondence and numerical reports accurately
- Process taxpayer listings, address changes, tax statements, returned mail, and online tax payments
- Maintain and update tax and financial systems, including paperless billing records and redeemed warrants
- Balance and verify cash drawers on a daily and weekly basis
- Review, calculate, and process Real Estate Excise Tax affidavits in compliance with Washington State laws and Department of Revenue guidelines
- Input, balance, and reconcile excise tax data daily, weekly, and monthly
- Issue Mobile Home Moving Permits, ensuring tax compliance and proper notifications
- Maintain knowledge of BARS requirements and applicable state, federal, and local laws related to internal controls and cash handling
- Maintain office supply inventory and assist with foreclosures, bankruptcies, and other departmental needs
- Cross-train to serve as backup for higher-level staff and perform other duties as assigned to ensure effective workflow and internal controls
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of clerical procedures and cash-handling practices, with at least two years of relevant experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database software
- Strong ten-key and accurate cashiering skills
- Excellent customer service and public relations abilities
- Ability to read, speak, and write English effectively
- Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute
