JOB SUMMARY: This position provides legal and administrative support for the District Court Division of the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Duties include preparing and proofreading legal documents, managing discovery, maintaining case files, assisting attorneys with exhibits and trial preparation, handling reception and phone duties, and processing mail and filings. The role requires frequent interaction with law enforcement, attorneys, court staff, and the public in a professional and courteous manner.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
Key Responsibilities:
- Support attorneys with legal documents, exhibits, filings, and discovery management.
- Maintain case files, databases, and office records.
- Provide reception services, answer phones, and assist the public.
- Process mail, faxes, and office correspondence.
- Perform administrative tasks such as archiving, scanning, and special projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of legal terminology, procedures, and court rules.
- Strong document preparation, proofreading, and editing skills.
- Ability to type at least 60 wpm, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with office software and standard office equipment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information and work professionally under pressure.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree or legal secretarial program preferred).
- Minimum of 1 year of legal support experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
- Must be 18+, have a valid driver’s license, pass background and driving record checks, and complete required tests.
Working Conditions:
- Office and courtroom setting, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
- Frequent deadlines, interruptions, and interaction with the public.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform tasks requiring walking, sitting, speaking, hearing, and vision.
- No telecommuting; occasional county travel and professional meetings required.
